There is nothing like a lazy afternoon on a porch swing …. or so I would guess. As someone with neither a porch nor a swing, this is all dreaming on my part. You see, just last weekend I sold a swinging outdoor settee (from the 1950s) in a yard sale at my parents. Gosh, it was cute. But I had no way to get it from the country to the city, and no place to put it once it arrived. But now I have spent countless hours googling porches, porch swings, swinging furniture, you name it. And it seems a lot of people have the same dream, they long for just an hour on the adult version of a swing (I guess this is a holdover from childhood, we love the swinging motion but now want more comfort). Check out some other great porch swings:
This pair in an enclosed porch is as adult as it gets, and very lovely.
Better than a hammock, but just as casual.
And easy to do to, cut off the legs and use some vintage pulleys with rope. I may have to build some kind of pergola/porch substitute in the backyard just to accommodate a swinging sofa.
