My sister-in-law recently sold her beloved cottage in New York State and as much as I’m going to miss it, I have to say I’m also really going to miss the charming little towns we’d gotten used to passing through on our way down there.  Honestly, some of the old architecture just kills me.  I see these once majestic, stately old Federal-style homes falling into disrepair and I want to throw them on a flat-bed truck and haul them north of the border!  Like a scene out of TLC’s “Massive Moves” (have you seen that show?!  To dream!).  But that I’ll save for another post…

On one of our last trips to the cottage we spent an afternoon, as we often did, exploring one of our favourite small towns nearby – aptly named Angelica.  My husband and I strolled the deserted main street only to literally fall through the front door of the town’s Post Office which had clearly just been restored to what I imagine to be pretty darned close to its original splendor (only better – check out the oh-so-current chic black & gold exterior!).  A-ma-zing.  It’s finds like this that truly get me excited.  Without a soul in sight I’d almost have believed we’d stepped onto a studio’s back-lot movie set.  It seemed unreal, eerily quiet and well, just plain perfect.  I hope the residents of this beautiful little town appreciate it half as much when they rush to send off their day to day snail mail as we did in those few moments we spent admiring it.  Hey, wait just a minute, I’ve been looking for a cross-border mailbox to ship all of those online US purchases to!  Hmmm…
