November 9th, 2011

This September, Martha had a story on DIY door mouldings & embellishments.  I have to say, 9 times out of 10 I am not a DIY kind of gal but there was a shot of a black door with a circular moulding that made me want to put on my crafty-pants and get right to it!  No matter where I happen to be, if there is an ornate door with circular mouldings or incredible hardware I take notice (and inevitably a photo for my files).  But it always seems to be a “someday” aspiration because doors, mouldings and hardware such as these don’t come cheap.  Enter the off-the-shelf ceiling medallion, an incredible salvaged knob, a coat of glossy black paint and  voila, instant grandeur!  Who knew?!  Oh right, Martha, of course…

So off I go to decide which builder doors in my house can be sacrificed and replaced with my slab door DIYs while I save up my pennies for a pair of 8′ beauties I hope to fall upon someday.

Here’s the DIY shot along with a few of my favourites…
