Call me old school, but I’ve always wanted a family crest. The sheild adorned with some sort of attractive critter, and a scroll waving it’s way through the design. I know I had a jacket in the 80′s with one- and I was probably reading The Preppy Handbook while wearing it. My attraction is to the history the symbol holds- I love tradition. But I think it’s also the idea that you can make an everyday object feel sort of special when it gets a crest stamped upon it. I know the idea is mumsy, and campy at the same time but I can’t help the love. If you are serious about this subject, the College of Arms in the UK www.college-of-arms.gov.uk can help you look into family history to search a coat of arms, or help you apply to have one established- crazy right?
I like the crest below (from a plant nursery just out side of London), the design feels modern and less uptight than the usual.
But then I see this crest in Laudomia Pucci’s estate (her home is in the hills of Florence). I can’t help loving how large and in charge it is.. kinda nutty too.
Found Style has this little beauty… with just the right amount of decoration.
And for fun, here’s an updated version of my jacket- mine didn’t have the piping (so cute). Ralph Lauren at Harrods.
